The Twenty vs. Premium Bonds
Premium Bonds
- Issued by NS&I (UK government-backed).
- Pay no interest — instead, every £1 bond is entered into a monthly prize draw.
- Winners are selected entirely at random by ERNIE, NS&I's random number generator.
- Your original bond value is always returned in full if you cash in — it's never at risk.
The Twenty
- A private UK fintech product, not a government scheme.
- £15 of your monthly £20 builds your own personal Vault, which you can withdraw at any time.
- £5 funds that week's collective prize pool.
- Qualification for the weekly prize pool (Crack the Vault) is earned by passing a Skill Test — not by a randomly drawn number.
The Core Difference
Premium Bonds' prize draw is pure chance: every bond has an equal, fixed, published probability of winning each month, decided entirely at random. The Twenty's weekly prize pool is only open to members who've earned qualification through the Skill Test — performance decides who gets a shot, not a random draw. That's why we describe The Twenty as a modern-day Premium Bonds: save money, get a shot at a prize, but skill determines qualification instead of a random draw.
