Inside The Skill Test: What The Three Trials Actually Measure

The Skill Test is the qualification gate for The Twenty's weekly experience — but what does it actually test?

Here's a closer look at the three trials, what each one measures, and how they combine into a single qualifying score.

Trial 1: Sequence Recall

The first trial is a short-term memory challenge.

You're shown a sequence, and asked to reproduce it back in the correct order.

Each round the sequence gets a little longer, testing how much you can hold in your head at once under mild time pressure.

Trial 2: Rule-Based Matching

The second trial swaps memory for pattern recognition.

You're given a rule — for example, identifying numbers that share a specific property — and asked to spot every value in a grid that matches it, against the clock.

This trial rewards quick, accurate pattern spotting rather than raw recall.

Trial 3: Pattern Completion

The third trial is about spotting what comes next.

You're shown a short numerical sequence and asked to identify the value that continues the pattern, from a set of options, before time runs out.

Each round runs on a tight timer, so this trial also tests composure under pressure.

How the three combine

Each trial is scored out of 3, for a maximum combined score of 9 across all three.

A combined score of 6 or higher qualifies you for that week's Crack the Vault stage.

There's no way to make up for a weak trial by being exceptional at another beyond that combined total — every trial has to pull some weight.

Why three different trials?

Memory, pattern recognition and composure under time pressure are three different skills.

Testing all three is designed to make the Skill Test harder to game and more representative of genuine ability than a single narrow task would be.

What if I don't pass?

Nothing else changes.

Under the current model, your £15 Vault allocation is untouched, and a new Skill Test unlocks the following week for another attempt.

The bigger picture

The Skill Test exists so that qualification for the weekly reveal is something you earn, not something you're randomly assigned.

Three trials. One combined score. A genuine shot, decided by performance.
